Studio Re-invite

Maybe my reputation precedes me and no one wants to be around during my design season. But I promise not to get crazy eyes and start welding bolts of fabric like a weapon -come visit the studio!  The real reason I ask is bc we need to clear a rack for our Fall 2010.  Things to know:  We have a 99 dollar rack.  Candace and I love dressing people.  We have crazy amounts of home pieces that only exist here. We have 1 offs that I only sell to friends and nice people.  Call Candace for an appointment (323.717.2153). xx

us open.

When I was a kid our one big vacation for the summer was the Op Pro in Huntington.  Now called the US Open -how chic.  I think at one point we had 8 people staying in our hotel room.  I wish I could go back and see it through my eyes now.  Or maybe that would ruin the mystic?  You never realize your parents are making a business, that the contests were our lively hood or that your hotel buddies were legends in the making.  Maybe I'll ditch the studio today and go watch some surfing -for old time sake.

Fabrics for Fall

Aside from our usual natural fabrics, silks and wools, and our reclaimed chambray- this season I went to Italy for sustainability and I think more chic finish.  I asked one of my fabric dudes for  the Fall to clarify about the process, it's awesome.

The gold fabric, gypsy pant and short.

The fabric is made primarily with Linen using Micro Nylon(Poliamide) yarns in the warp which appear on the face of the fabrics and give the fabrics the luminescence and the light refraction qualities which gives the fabric its unique character and sheen. Also as the luminescence on the fabric is not being created by applying an artificial chemical or treatment but by weaving the fabric in such a manner that the nylon yarns appear on the face of the fabric, this luminescence is permanent and an integral part of the fabric. The fabric is made near Florence, Italy.

The aged linen for Dress, blazer and pant.

This is a 100% Linen first woven as a double face fabric. Then one side of the fabric, the face side, is impregnated with pigment based colour paste. The process is very similar to as how you would paint a wall using a roller, the fabric is coated with colour using a 100% screen. Then the fabric is stone washed in a tumbler machine to create the special Maltinto effect that you see on the fabric. No two rolls or lots of the fabric will ever be similar on account of the artisanal process of finishing the fabric in this way. Best of all, this is all done in a sustainable and responsible way near Florence Italy.
